When Ben from Dadcar set himself the challenge of creating the worldโs first six-seat Maserati MPV, we knew exactly how to help. His dream was simple: make memories as a family of sixโwithout giving up the soul-stirring drama of a V8 Grand Tourer. Our job at Multimac was to make that dream practical, legal, and safe.
Hereโs how we did it.
The Brief: Four Across in a Super GT
Benโs goal was bold: fit four child seats across the back of a Maserati GranTurismo S, keep his wife up front, and head out for a proper family drive. Heโd already proved you can daily a Maserati as a parent; this time, he wanted the full family in one row.
What we proposed
-
A custom Multimac 4-across unit, measured precisely for the GranTurismo rear bench.
-
Matching leather and blue contrast stitching to complement the Maserati interior.
-
A configuration that would grow with his kids: from newborn (with a MiniMac) through to 12+.
Preparing the Car: Making Room the Smart Way
Before installation, Ben enlisted help to remove the rear cupholders and reshape the centre console trim. This small change created valuable legroom for the middle positions and lowered the centre section for better headroom.
Key tweaks:
-
Removed the cupholder module and reduced trim height.
-
Protected the wiring harness beneath with a tidy cover.
-
Preserved originality by using a spare console bought from eBay (so the car can be returned to stock at any time).
None of this is required for most cars, but on tightly packaged GTs, these micro-adjustments help maximise comfort for growing kids.
The Install: Made-to-Measure, Factory-Finish Look
When our team arrived with the custom-trimmed Multimac, we all had the same reaction: it looked like it belonged in the Maserati from day one. The leather, twin stitching and blue thread matched beautifullyโand, crucially, the seat slotted straight in.
Highlights:
-
Four-across layout securely mounted to the carโs existing seat belt anchorage system via the Multimac frame.
-
Headrests fitted to suit the ages of Benโs children (configurable as they grow).
-
Option to add a MiniMac infant seat for newborns if needed.
Benโs verdict? โIt looks even better than I expectedโand it fits perfectly.โ
Safety & Legality: The Big Questions, Answered
We know the comments section well: โHow can this be legal?โ โIs it insured?โ โIs it safe?โ Letโs cover it clearly.
R129 Compliant
Multimac is R129 compliantโthe modern European child seat safety standard. Our system is different to single child seats, so itโs engineered with energy-absorbing structures that work for a very wide range of use cases: from one newborn to four older children across the same bench.
Crash Testing & Engineering
Developing Multimac to approval took 13 years and ยฃ750,000 of engineering and crash testing. The results are exceptionalโgood enough that even traditional child seat manufacturers struggled to believe the numbers when they first saw them.
DVLA & Insurance
-
DVLA: Because a Multimac is temporary and removable (in minutes), it doesnโt change a carโs official seating capacity. No V5C updates are needed.
-
Insurers: The Association of British Insurers reviewed our crash data and were satisfied. In practice, customers simply notify their insurer and keep the invoice for their records. When cars are written off or stolen, insurers routinely replace the Multimac as part of the claim.
Cost: The Real-World Maths
A typical 4-across Multimac starts from ~ยฃ2,200 for the base unit.
With headrests and without a MiniMac, Benโs spec works out at ~ยฃ2,600.
Add a MiniMac for infants and the package is ~ยฃ3,000.
Custom leather trimming (hand-finished, including stitching and thread colour choices) is ยฃ800.
Now compare that to four premium single seats over 12 years: parents buy an average of 2.8 seats per child. At ยฃ500 per seat, thatโs ~ยฃ1,400 per child ร 4 = ~ยฃ4,200โand you still may not get four-across compatibility. With Multimac, you keep the car you love and often avoid the huge depreciation hit of โhaving to buy a bigger car.โ
The Reveal: Four Kids, One Row, One Maserati
With the seat fitted, the real test began: all four children belted in, Mum in the front, and off they wentโeven in the rain (because of course it rained). The kids loved the โmatching Maserati seats,โ and Ben loved that rear-row visibility and access were still workable in a tightly packaged coupe.
Heโs already planning future tweaks (like relocating a wiring harness to gain an extra 1.5″ of headroom in the middle and adding a switchable exhaust valveโbecause Dadcar).
Why This Matters
Families shouldnโt have to choose between passion and practicality. Multimac exists so you can keep the car that excites youโand still seat all your children safely, legally, and comfortably in one row.
For Ben, that means school runs, road trips, and memory-making in a Maserati GranTurismo S. For you, it could mean keeping your estate, SUV, hot hatchโor that V12 you swore youโd never sell.
FAQ

Is it safe?
Yes. Multimac is R129 compliant and engineered with energy-management features for a wide range of children and scenarios. Our crash test performance is outstanding.
How long can my kids use it?
From birth (with MiniMac) to around 12 years and beyond, depending on size and local regulations.
How much does it cost?
From ~ยฃ2,200 for the base 4-across unit. Typical family setups (with headrests) are around ~ยฃ2,600; add MiniMac for infants and itโs ~ยฃ3,000. Custom leather: ยฃ800.
