How long will my Multimac last?

Investing in a Multimac: A Smart Choice for Your Family

We understand that a Multimac is a significant investment for you and your family. While it may be more affordable than purchasing a larger car or a second vehicle, we completely get that you want to ensure you’re getting the best value for your money—and (spoiler alert) we can confidently say that you are!

Built to Last – Unlike Standard Car Seats

One of the key things to understand about the Multimac’s lifespan is that, unlike traditional children’s car seats, it is designed to last. Made primarily from aluminium, the Multimac is far more durable than standard plastic car seats. This means:

✔️ No six-year expiry – Unlike traditional seats that need replacing, a Multimac lasts indefinitely.
✔️ Stronger & more resilient – It is built to withstand more wear and tear.
✔️ Crash-resistant – In many cases, it may not even need replacing after an accident.

Designed for Families of All Ages

A common question we receive is: “Is the Multimac suitable for children of different ages?” The short answer is yes—absolutely!

  • It is designed to safely transport children from birth to 12 years old.
  • With the right accessories, it can even accommodate children beyond 12 years old.
  • Your car remains fully usable—a small adult can comfortably sit in a Multimac for short trips, and if needed, the Multimac can be removed in under five minutes (though due to its sturdy aluminium build, you may need two people to lift it).

How the Multimac Adapts as Your Child Grows

From Birth: The Minimac

For babies up to 18 months (or 13kg / 82cm), the Minimac is our rear-facing baby seat that securely clicks into the Multimac.

  • Includes a Head Hugger with foam inserts for added support.
  • Up to three Minimacs can fit in most Multimac seats—ideal for parents of twins or triplets!
  • The Minimac is exclusively designed for the Multimac and cannot be used with other pushchairs or strollers.

👶 Exciting update! We’re currently developing an extended rear-facing Minimac to allow children to rear-face even longer, expected to launch by the end of 2024.

Forward-Facing: The YlvaHeadrest

Once your child outgrows the Minimac, they will need an Ylva Headrest, which provides essential side-impact protection.

  • Required for forward-facing children up to at least 6 years old.
  • Fully height-adjustable with a five-point harness.
  • For taller children, the Ylva Back Pad works along side the Ylva and offers additional head and neck support as they get bigger.

For Older Children: The Tommy Headrest

If your child outgrows the Ylva Headrest or if your car’s ceiling is too low to accommodate it, we offer the Tommy Headrest, a smaller, more traditional headrest that still provides comfort.

Maximising Longevity with Additional Accessories

To ensure you get even more use out of your Multimac, we offer:

  • Low Profile Seat Cushion – Lowers the seat height, allowing older children to stay in the five-point harness longer.
  • Plug-In Buckle – Enables older children, teenagers, or small adults to use the car’s standard seatbelt instead of the five-point harness.

💡 The five-point harness is fully adjustable and typically fits children until 135cm tall (around 10-12 years old). If you often have teenagers or small adults in the Multimac, a Plug-In Buckle is a great investment!

Conclusion

Getting at least 12 years out of a child’s car seat? That’s exceptional value for money! Plus, since Multimacs are built to last, they retain their value well and can often be sold second-hand for a good price.
